Chamomile

German- Matricaria recutita

Roman- Chamaemelum nobile

 

Chamomile grows well in full sun to partial shade with well drained soil. Both types can grow on average to about 6'' tall. German chamomile likes cooler temperatures and has been used for burns, teas, and assisting with sleep. Roman chamomile has been used to make teas and herbal beers.

Recipes

Herbal Sun Tea

 

35 minutes

 

Ingredients:

tea bags (of your choice)

2 qts water

3 cups leaves (fresh peppermint)

1 cup lemon balm

1/2 cup chamomile (flowers)

1 lemon

 

Directions:

Slices the lemon into wedges. Add the herbs to pitcher of water and let sit in direct sunlight for 3 to 5 hours. Refrigerate after brewing (last 2 to 3 days).

Apple Chamomile Tea

 

10 minutes

 

Ingredients:

2 cups apple juice (fresh preferred)

1/4 cup pineapple juice

2 tbsps chamomile (flowers)

1 dash cinnamon (optional)

 

Directions:

In a small saucepan, bring apple juice and pineapple juice to a boil. Remove from heat and add the chamomile flowers. Let the juice and chamomile flowers steep for about 5 minutes. After 5 minutes strain the flowers from the tea and pour into cups. Finally add a dash of cinnamon (optional).
