Catnip

Catnip grows well in full sun to partial shade and well drained soil. It has an intoxicating effect on cats and can be used by people for colds, flu, and upset stomachs. Catnip can grow to 3' tall on average.

Catnip Cookies

 

1 hour

 

Ingredients:

1 cup whole wheat flour

1/4 cup soy flour

1 teaspoon Catnip

1 egg

1/3 cup of milk

1 teaspoon molasses

2 tablespoons butter

 

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (200°C). Mix the whole wheat flour, soy flour, and Catnip together in a bowl. Next add the molasses, egg, oil, and milk. Flour your work surface and roll the mixture out flat. Cut the mixture into bite-sized portions, using a sharp knife or cookie cutter. Oil a baking sheet and place the bite-sized pieces evenly apart on the sheet. Bake the cookies for about 20 minutes. Let cool, and store in a sealed container.

Catnip & Tuna Cat Treats

 

35 minutes

 

Ingredients:

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 cup nonfat dry milk powder

1/2 can tuna, in oil

1 tbsp. vegetable oil or 1 tbsp. cod liver oil

1 egg, beaten

1/4 cup water

1/4 cup finely crushed dry catnip

 

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (200°C). In a large bowl, mash the tuna so there are no large chunks. (a food processor can be used also). Mix the flour and milk in the tuna until thoroughly mixed into a paste without chunks or lumps. Add water and oil and mix well. Beat the egg until foamy. Add the egg to the mixture and mix until well blended. Shape the mixture into tiny balls using spoons or by rolling them in your hands.Roll the balls in the finely crushed catnip. Place the balls on a greased cooking sheet and flatten slightly. Bake for 10 minutes then remove them from the oven and let them stand for 5 minutes. Turn the treats over and bake for another 10 minutes or until brown. Cool treats fully before giving them to your cat. Store in a sealed container in the refridgerator or in a cool dry place.

Catnip Crackers

 

30 minutes

 

Ingredients:

3/4 cup flour

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

2 tbsp. dried catnip

1/2 cup yogurt

1 egg

1 tbsp. honey

3 tbsp. vegetable oil

 

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F (200°C). In a medium bowl, mix the dry ingredients together. Stir in the yogurt, egg, honey, and vegetable oil. Roll out the dough on a floured surface. Cut the dough into tiny treat-sized pieces. Place the peices in a greased cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until treats are golden brown. Store in a covered container in the refridgerator (keeps for about a week) or store in the freezer (keeps for about 3 months).

Catnip Toy

Things you'll need:

Catnip Stalks

Sock

 

Directions:

Hang dry the catnip stalks or use a food dehydrater. Crush the dried catnip into fine pieces and fill a sock of your choosing (smaller socks mean smaller toys).

 

If your cat does not like toys, refridgerate the stalks and give your cat a stem as a fresh treat. Fresh catnip keeps for about two weeks when kept in the refidgerator.

Catnip Tea

 

15 minutes

 

Ingredients:

1 tsp. catnip leaves(dried) or 1 tbsp. fresh leaves.

1 teapot boiling water

 

Directions:

Add leaves to wire mesh tea ball. Place the tea ball in the teapot right before it begins to boil. Let the tea steep for 5 to 10 minutes depending on how strong you want your tea. Try adding a pinch of lemon balm or honey to sweaten the
